While he may have delayed his sophomore album from the summer to the fall, it showed that good things come to those who wait. “Marvin’s Room” wowed the critics while inspiring many remixes including the JoJo remix.
#8 Justin Bieber
It looks Bieber Fever isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. In February, Bieber released his film, “Never Say Never”, to critical and commercial acclaim. He also went on to release more hit singles and a hit fragnance. He’s currently on the Hot 200 with his hit Christmas album, “Under the Mistletoe.”
#7 Kanye West + Jay-Z
What do you get when you combine the talents of two of hip hop’s biggest names? You get the explosive collaboration of “Watch the Throne” by Jay-Z and Kanye West. The Throne set the record for most digital copies of an album sold via the exclusive early release on iTunes.
#6 Nicki Minaj
She’s toured with Britney, collaborated with Drake and Rihanna, and mentored by Lil Wayne…it’s no wonder she’s having this breakout year. Rapper Nicki Minaj delivered one of summer’s hottest songs in “Super Bass” which spawned countless covers.
#5 Lil Wayne
This multi-platinum rapper not only delivers hits but is nurturing some of hip hop’s newcomers such as Drake and Nicki Minaj. He sold a staggering 964,000 copies of his sixth album, Tha Carter IV feauturing his auto-tuned slow-jam, “How to Love.
The Barbadian songstress continuously keeps churning hit after hit with no signs of stopping any time soon. She’s just released her sixth album, Talk that That, featuring her 11th #1 single, “We Found Love.”
#3 Katy Perry
This pop star ruled the radio airwaves with songs about sun-kissed skin so hot will melt your popsicle and lovers from another planet but made history with her song about Friday nights. Katy Perry and her historic Teenage dream have just surpassed another milestone by becoming the 7th album to have 6 Top 10 singles including her latest gem, “The One That Got Away.”
#2 Lady Gaga
She was born this way and that may include looking like Madonna. She came out of an egg, gave birth to a new race, and topped the charts with her second full-length album. She continues to wow her Little Monsters with her eclectic fashion.
With a non-cumulative total of 13 weeks spent at #1 on the Billboard 200 with her sophomore album, 21, and having hit songs such as “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You.” It is no surprise that Adele is having the last laugh after heartbreak with her quadruple platinum certified album. She just garnered six Grammy nominated including in the coveted Record of the Year category. Not bad for heartbreak, right?
